Hunza valley

Hunza valley is considered a most attractive tourist destination in Pakistan. It’s a mountainous valley situated in extreme Northern part of Pakistan (Gilgit) which comes under jurisdiction of Pakistan. As this valley is popular for its natural beauty, sceneries, giant mountains for this reason it is famous as “Paradise on Earth”. 

Safety: Hunza is very safe and the people are known for their hospitality similar to all Pakistan cities.

Money: Pakistan Rupees, All International Credit Card (Visa; Master Card) are accepted as the ATMs are available.

Shopping: A variety of precious and semi-precious minerals and gemstone shops are located in the vicinity of Karimabad which is one of the biggest attraction points in this area.

Transport In Hunza Valley

Airport: You can take a direct flight to main Gilgit airport is 105km away from Hunza center.

Local Transportation: To reach to Baltit fort, Borith lake jeeps are available to travel on unpaved routes.

Weather In Hunza Valley

The valley offers extremely different landscapes in all the four seasons of the year. But in Hunza tourist season generally starts from May to October, because in winter season the Karakoram Highway is usually blocked by the heavy snow.

Places To Visit In Hunza Valley

Baltit Fort

  • Baltit Fort or Balti Fort an almost 700 years old fort located in the Hunza valley is one of the most visited attraction point in Hunza valley. UNESCO has been already added it in the World Heritage tentative list. It is situated at a height, and one must either walk or take a jeep to reach this point. 

Borith Lake

  • Another most visited point in Hunza valley is Borith Lake which is situated near Gulmit, Gojal, in the upper Hunza area. The altitude of Borith is almost 2,600 m /8,500 feet above sea level. The lake can be reached via a 2 km unpaved route through jeep from Husseini village, and is also reachable by a 2-3 hour trekking route directly.

Rakaposhi View Point

  • Rakaposhi is a peak in the Karakoram Range in the Gilgit-Baltistan territory of Pakistan. It is listed 27th highest peak in the world and 12th highest peak in Pakistan. It is a point on Karakoram highway named as Rakaposhi Viewpoint, famous as one of the most visited tourist attraction of Hunza Valley. In the regional dialect, Rakaposhi implies “shiny wall”.

    Location: It is located in the midst of the Nagar and Bagrote valleys, roughly 100 km in the North of the Gilgit (semi-autonomous Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan).

Altit Fort

  • Decorated with the farms of cherries, as you enter in this architectural wonder it is an antiquated remain of rulers of Hunza Valley. It was once home to the ancestral rulers of the Hunza land who took the title Mir, though they went to the Baltit fort almost three centuries later. Altit Fort and especially the Shikari tower were built in 11th century, which makes it the oldest masterpiece in the Gilgit–Baltistan.

Attabad Lake

  • A land sliding in the Hunza Valley made two ranges join together and they halted the course of Hunza River, transforming it into a magnificent lake. It begins from Ganish Village and its length is about 29.3 kilometres. In January 2010 massive landslide occurred at Attabad Village located in Hunza Valley and this mesmerizing lake created as a result of this disaster.

Khunjerab Pass

  • Sost is a beautiful village on the edge of Pakistan and China’s Border. Every year thousands of visitors come to discover the beauty of this enchanting place. Sost is the last tourist attraction of Hunza Valley. The Khunjerab Pass is popular as one of the biggest paved international border crossing around the world. It is the highest spot on the Karakoram Highway (on the southwest border of China) as well.

Passu

  • Passu is one of the dreamiest places in Hunza Valley. Passu is a famous tourist attraction because of its easily reachable enchanting scenes, and incredible views of the Passu Sar Mountain (7,478 meters) the Passu Glacier and Passu Cones.

    Location: Passu is located along the Hunza River, about 15 kilometres from Gulmit, the Tehsil headquarters of Gojal (Upper Hunza), in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan and it is located almost 150 kilometres upriver from Gilgit.

Eagle’s Nest/ Duikar

  • Eagle’s Nest or Duiker is the biggest spot of Hunza Valley from where you can have the mesmerizing view of whole Hunza Valley. Captivating sunset, sunrise make and spellbinding milky at night way it an extraordinary camping site.

    Transportation: Visitors can hire a jeep from Hunza or private transport can also be booked to experience the beauty of nature around Duiker.
